Comment posted here, graduation official as of March 1, 2022, because of course Steve had to graduate during an event involving a timeskip, a dormant Barge, and an absent Admiral.

[TEXT: Private to Bucky]
Hey, I need you to hang on to something for me for a little while, if you don't mind.

[SPAM; OTA]
[It's not that there's a new guy on the Barge - there's not. But anyone used to seeing Captain America around might notice that he's conspicuously missing as of Saturday - or, at least, he's not six-foot two and two hundred twenty pounds anymore. He's five-foot four and about a hundred pounds soaking wet, and he's not apologetic about it in the least. Same haircut, same voice, same style of dress (at least he asked for some civilian clothes that would fit), same attitude.

Steve goes about his day the same as he ever has - he goes for a run through the Barge early in the morning, and he shows up for his lunch shift in the kitchens and his shifts in the infirmary on time. He shows up at T'Pol's cabin for meditation, and he's even in the gym sometimes, working out against the bags. It's just that his mile has gone from two minutes to twenty, and he's got an inhaler in his pocket for those times when running or climbing the stairs - he's not taking the elevator, he refuses - gets to be a little too much.

Of course, he knows people are going to notice, but unless someone says something to him first, they're not going to hear a word about it from him. Actions speak louder than words, after all.]

[ooc: If anyone needs a reference, 1, 2, & 3, just with this haircut, still. Feel free to recognize him or not!]
punched_hitler: ([tfa] suspicious and unsure)
[Something's wrong. Something's very wrong, that much has been clear since Steve woke up this morning, and he's not any closer to figuring it out.

All he can, tell, by this point, is people are missing, and certain areas seem closed, even when he should have access to them. So. Time to address the Barge - or what and who's left of it.]

So clearly, something's going on. I don't know what, or who's behind it, but until we figure it out, or where half the Barge seems to have gone, I figure it's a good time to start up patrolling, for those of you still here. Sound off, for me, let me know if you need a partner. I realize the list's gone through more than a couple changes, anyway, since Captain Okita and I first made it.

Actually, sound off for me if you can see this. I don't have any idea how many people are missing. Just that people are, and we'd better figure this out.

If anyone needs access to the kitchen or mess hall, I've got a key - am I the only kitchen warden left? Does someone have a key to the infirmary?
punched_hitler: ([tfa] asleep for almost seventy years)
[SPAM: Closed to Bucky]
[When Steve finally opens his eyes, he's got no idea how long it's been. The last thing he remembers, he'd dragged himself back here after days of not sleeping (or sleeping poorly), felt like maybe he could actually close his eyes for a couple of minutes, and sat down on the bed to do just that. So for a second, he's not surprised that he fell asleep in his uniform, or that he's feeling a little groggy.

Groggy enough, actually, that when he first sees the outline of Bucky in his cabin, all he registers is the profile, the short hair, and he defaults to treating Bucky completely normally without thinking about it.

He takes a breath, runs a hand through his hair (a hand that he hasn't realized, yet, has sharpie on it from Bleu's handiwork), eyes fluttering a little.]
Hey, Buck - what time is it?

[Steve's showered, changed out of his uniform, and is sporting the same type of body art he got the last time he fell into a coma, thanks the Bleu (and funny enough, he still doesn't mind). He's wearing a clean white t-shirt and slacks, and managing to somehow look awake and drained, all at once. That could be because he hasn't been to the dining hall yet to fill up his growling stomach, or it could be a couple of other things.] Hey - I'm up. I heard I missed about a month - is everyone doing all right? Where do you need me?

[Oh, and also -] What happened to my cabin door?

[Last time he'd checked, he had one. Now it's missing. Suffice to say, he's glad his bathroom door is still present.]

[Showing concern over anything that he's likely to have missed in the last month isn't going to do much good, he figures; neither is apologizing for not being around, even though he wants to. Either way, he settles on a simple,] How're you doing?
punched_hitler: [tws] (unsure where i stand)
[The feed turns on to Steve looking determined. Tired, in a way he doesn't usually look, but determined.]

I owe everyone here an apology. I've been lying about Bucky since I got here.

[Yeah, he pretended it wasn't lying, but lying by omission is still lying, and he knows it.]

He's not dead. I knew he wasn't dead. He's been a prisoner of war for seventy years - worse than that - and I knew what happened to him, and I didn't tell him, and I didn't tell any of you so you couldn't tell him. I didn't want him to know.

I'm sorry, and if you don't trust a word out of my mouth ever again, that's fair. But I promise that's the only thing I've ever lied about here, if you're still willing to give me a chance.

[He stops, unsure whether he should say more. Finally,] I came here to find a way to help him.

[Now the rug's been pulled out from under his feet; he doesn't even have the whole story, just what Morgana told him, and her insistence that it was probably best for him to stay away for now. And he has absolutely no idea where to go from here.]

He's back on board. I haven't seen him yet, but I know he'll need his friends. That's a lot of you. [He doesn't have that, back home. All he has is Steve. Here, those friends are already making a difference. Maybe that's the answer. Maybe it was all along, and he was stupid to think otherwise.]

Be careful. [That hurts to say, telling people they might have something to fear, but he has to.] And go easy on him. But don't let him forget you're there.

I'd really appreciate it, but I'd rather you did it for him, anyway.

[Because Bucky doesn't want to deal with Steve. That doesn't mean Steve is going to give up, because fuck that noise, but if what Bucky needs is space, then shouldn't Steve respect him enough to give it to him? God knows the Barge is a small, contained space, and the fact that Bucky's hiding from him, hasn't tried to talk to him says a lot in and of itself, loud and clear. The idea of forcing Bucky to do something, anything, after the hell he's been through makes Steve feel sick.

He looks like he might say something else, but then he stops and turns off the feed.]

[He'll be wandering the halls under the guise of patrolling a lot more than usual - almost continuously, really, loitering around in places that Bucky might once have liked. If he's sleeping much, it's probably not clear when he's finding the time.]
punched_hitler: ([ta] are you sure this is a good idea)
I need a favor. I'm wondering how many people around here know how to meditate - and might be willing to give some pointers. Ideally in person, and possibly to someone who doesn't want said pointers.

[If T'Pol ends up needing help, anyway. Steve's open to pointers, and he'd like to learn, too.

And, as long as he's on - ]
On a different note, if anyone needs help cleaning anything up, consider me a one-man moving company. Just call.

[SPAM, around the Barge: OTA]
[The Barge is kind of a mess. It almost makes Steve regret being on the planet, except he doesn't, actually, because clearly he was needed down there, too. He can't be in two places at once, but he does sort of wish he could, even if everyone up here handled things... well, mostly admirably.

He can't get infected by anything lying around (he's fairly sure), plus he's strong enough to move a lot of the corpses and other damaged things that resulted from everything that went on. So he's spending at least part of his days on self-imposed cleanup duty, not caring if he gets dirty or bloody or anything else from handling the carnage and the damage. He's seen stuff like this before, and he's not squeamish.]
punched_hitler: [tws] (pic#7994975)
[VOICE: Private to the Admiral]
I want to -

[change my deal, he almost says, but he manages to clamp down on that before he can say it. What he ends up saying instead is,]

I want to know if you knew you could never give him what he asked for.

[The video turns on to show Steve in front of a generic Barge cabin door. Nothing special to see here, except it's supposed to belong to someone. But all the staring in the world isn't going to change that.

Steve just looks… blank. His voice is perfectly level, and he's looking through the communicator, more than at it.]
Sergeant Barnes is gone. So's his cabin, so… I think most of you know what that means, by now.

I'm going to the Enclosure and no, I don't want company. [It's not a suggestion. It's almost a threat.

He wants to punch as many things as possible, and at least there's an easy way to do it, around here.

Plus, if he can make the things he's punching look like HYDRA agents? All the better.

The video ends with Steve just dropping his communicator in the hall and leaving the frame. He doesn't want to be contacted. He can't deal with everyone saying they're sorry, or whatever it is they're going to say. He can't deal with them all thinking Bucky is dead, and he can't tell them any differently after all this time, either. What's the point?]

[SPAM, hallways and then the infirmary; OTA, hours later]
[Several hours later, Steve finally drags himself out of the Enclosure. The shield's on his right arm, because his left is pretty visibly broken. So is his nose. A lot of him - well, what's visible around his slacks and t-shirt - is covered in bruises and scrapes, maybe even a few burns, but by the time he manages to schlep his way down to Level 2 and the infirmary, cuts that were originally deep look shallower and some of the bruises are starting to turn a little more few-days-old green than angry just-happened purple.

When he finally makes it to the infirmary, he glances around for whoever's on duty, not looking or sounding apologetic in the least, despite the fact that he opens with an apology:]

Hey… sorry to be a bother, but I could use some help setting these. [Meaning his nose and his arm.

He sounds about as level and blank as he did over the video, in any case. He's only here because if he waits, he'll heal enough that they're going to have to re-break the damn things to get them straight.]

[VOICE: Private to Helena, a few hours after his initial post]
I'm sorry. I know you meant a lot to him, if it helps. He wanted to help you.

If there's anything you need, I know I'm not your warden, but just ask. You'll get it.

[Until she gets a new warden. He doesn't want to say that out loud, though.]

[SPAM, around the Barge; OTA, the days that follow]
[Steve is acting normal. Or at least doing a very good impression of it. He doesn't miss anything he's committed to, and the only noticeable difference is that he eats most of his meals in his cabin, rather than in the dining hall.

He's been through this before. It shouldn't even be as bad, this time, because he knows Bucky isn't dead.

Except it's just as bad. It's like losing him all over again, over the side of that train, and Steve's stuck here out of choice, because he came here to do some good and he's still got a job to do. And he's going to do it.]
punched_hitler: ([aou] aveners assemble again)
[Steve hasn't exactly been avoiding his inmate, but rather trying to give them both a little space following their possession with shas. But eventually, that's got to end - because it's starting to feel a little too much like running away, and there are issues that need to be addressed, uncomfortable or not.

He figures T'Pol is about as eager to address them as he is, though, so maybe it's better to just focus on something else, and let the rest follow naturally.]

I need to know your schedule in the kitchens. We're going to start meeting regularly.

[He doesn't really make it an option, because it's not. For either of them. But he figures she deserves a little more explanation than none, so:] We're going to learn how to meditate.

Or I guess practice, in your case. I'll learn.

There's also a couple of things we should go over.

[Remember those ground rules? They were pretty simple, but someone clearly needs a refresher. They might need to add one more, too.]
punched_hitler: [tws] (then finish it)
[SPAM: for T'Pol and Bucky, 3/17]
CW for somewhat gruesome death: blood, impalement )

[SPAM: OTA, Infirmary 3/18-3/19 and later elsewhere around the Barge]
[By the time Steve revives, it's already early afternoon on the 18th. Bucky's helped him to the Infirmary, which is honestly about the last place Steve wants to be, but at first, he's feeling too off to protest. As the day goes on, though, he's already getting antsy - nevermind that he feels like he's had his ribs crushed in and like the asthma and the heart condition he once suffered from have decided to double-team him. He feels like he shouldn't be in here recovering - he should be out there, figuring out who did this, making sure it can't happen again. He feels even more strongly, once he realizes that he's only the latest in what's appearing to be a string of murders.

Still, he stays put - for about a day. And he's not very gracious about it. By evening on the 19th, he's had enough. He's sure his accelerated healing can handle this, and besides, he's no stranger to pain. So even though the pain is still not a whole lot less than intense, he's ready to get out of the Infirmary and back to his cabin, at least - which is exactly what he does, or tries to do, whether there's anyone around to help him or not. He'd eat, but he's still feeling nauseous - although he does stop by the Dining Hall long enough to glance in the door and realize that no, he really wants nothing to do with it, just yet. Then he's back to dragging himself to his cabin on Level 7.]
punched_hitler: ([tfa] i've heard this one before)
[The video flicks on to show Steve sitting on his bed in his cabin, looking a little sleep-rumpled and definitely confused.]

The last thing I remember, I was in the art room. And it was not eight-thirty at night.

[For all he knows, it's only been a couple of hours - although that doesn't explain what look like intricate drawings all down his arms, disappearing up under the sleeves of his t-shirt - and apparently going all the way to his hands, when he runs a hand through his hair (the latter of which he does not realize has just the slightest green tinge to it in front, either).]

What the hell happened?

[He feels like he's still trying to wake up - and he's also starving. Frankly, it feels a lot like deja vu, and for a second, he can't place it. But then it starts to come together; he suddenly frowns, glancing at his arms and thinking of the conversation he had with Bleu about Sharpies. His stomach drops a little.]

What day is it?

[SPAM; Dining Hall]
[As soon as Steve's figured out what's going on, the starving part makes more sense. Which is why he's in the dining hall, shortly after his video, eating more than usual - which is already more than a normal person, so currently it looks a little like he's having his own ten-course meal at one of the tables in the corner.

He's also got on a long-sleeved shirt now, even if it's impossible to hide the Sharpie drawings all over his hands. In a way, he doesn't actually mind, but he felt a little silly walking all over with his arms looking a bit unusual.]
