I know he was conscious for some time, after he fell," Steve said, trying to get the words out around a lump that had suddenly formed in his throat. His hands had balled into fists, his entire body growing tense. He was glad the doctor couldn't see him, or the anguish on his face. "He survived on his own for a couple of days, until someone found him. I don't know how much he remembers after that. I couldn't - didn't - ask him," he finished quickly.
